Ingredients

For the Sushi:

  • 🍚 1 recipe sushi rice
  • 🦀 8 oz imitation crab sticks
  • 🥄 3 Tbsp Japanese mayonnaise
  • 🥑 1 ripe avocado
  • 🥒 1/2 English cucumber
  • 🟩 8 sheets toasted nori seaweed (cut in half)
  • 🌱 Toasted sesame seeds
  • 🌱 Black sesame seeds
  • 🍤 16 tempura fried shrimp

Toppings:

  • 🍶 Unagi sauce
  • 🌶️ Spicy mayo

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sushi Rice:
    • Cook the sushi rice according to your recipe or use a rice cooker for best results. Let the rice cool to room temperature. Note: This recipe makes enough rice for 8 rolls, so adjust as needed. 🍚
  2. Mix Crab Filling:
    • Finely chop the imitation crab sticks and mix them with 3 tablespoons of Japanese mayonnaise. Set the mixture aside. 🦀🥄
  3. Prepare the Sushi Mat:
    • Wrap your bamboo sushi mat in plastic wrap to make cleanup easier. 📦
  4. Prepare the Nori:
    • Place 1 sheet of toasted nori on the sushi mat. Use scissors to cut off 1/4 of the sheet to ensure you have the right size for rolling. ✂️
  5. Spread the Rice:
    • Wet your hands in a bowl of water to prevent the rice from sticking. Grab a handful of sushi rice and spread it evenly over the nori, pressing gently. Keep your hands wet to avoid mashing the rice. 💦
  6. Add Sesame Seeds:
    • Sprinkle toasted white sesame seeds and black sesame seeds over the rice. Flip the entire sheet of nori over onto the mat. 🌱
  7. Add Fillings:
    • In the center of the seaweed, place about 1 ounce of the crab mixture, a few strips of cucumber, two slices of avocado, and 2 tempura fried shrimp (with tails removed). 🦀🥒🥑🍤
  8. Roll the Sushi:
    • Using the sushi mat, gently compress the ingredients while rolling the nori. Keep the roll tight as you continue to roll it with the mat. 🔄

    • Place the roll on a cutting board. Use a sharp, wet knife to cut the sushi into 8 equal pieces, wetting the knife between slices to prevent sticking. 🔪

Ingredients

For the sushi:

🍚 1 recipe sushi rice
🦀 8 oz imitation crab sticks
🥄 3 Tbsp Japanese mayonnaise
🥑 1 ripe avocado
🥒 1/2 English cucumber
🟩 8 sheets toasted nori seaweed (cut in half)
🌱 Toasted sesame seeds
🌱 Black sesame seeds
🍤 16 tempura fried shrimp

Toppings:

🍶 Unagi sauce
🌶️ Spicy mayo


Instructions

1️⃣ Make the sushi rice according to the recipe. It’s best to use a rice cooker. Let the rice cool. Note: the sushi rice recipe makes 8 rolls, but you can cut this in half if needed. 🍚

2️⃣ Finely chop 8 oz of imitation crab meat and mix it with 3 Tbsp of kewpie Japanese mayonnaise. Set aside. 🦀🥄

3️⃣ Wrap your bamboo sushi mat in plastic wrap for easier cleanup. 📦

4️⃣ Place 1 sheet of toasted nori seaweed on the sushi mat and cut off 1/4 of it with scissors. Using a full sheet may result in too much rice vs. filling. ✂️

5️⃣ Wet your hands in a bowl of water, grab a handful of rice, and spread a thin, even layer on the seaweed. Be careful not to press too hard to avoid mashing the rice. Continuously wet your hands to prevent sticking. 💦

6️⃣ Sprinkle toasted white sesame seeds and black sesame seeds on top of the rice. Flip the entire sheet of seaweed over. 🌱

7️⃣ In the middle of the seaweed, add about 1 oz of the imitation crab meat mixture, a few strips of cucumber, two slices of avocado, and 2 tempura fried shrimp (tails off). 🦀🥒🥑🍤

8️⃣ Using the sushi mat, slightly compress the inner ingredients while rolling the nori. Keep rolling the sushi with the mat, ensuring the roll is tight. 🔄

9️⃣ Place the sushi roll on a cutting board. Use a sharp, wet knife to cut the sushi into 8 equal pieces, wetting the knife before each slice. 🔪

🔟 Top with spicy mayo and unagi sauce. Serve with soy sauce and wasabi. 🍶🌶️
