Crafting Fun and Festive Cake Pops

Are you looking for a creative way to use up leftover cake or just want a fun project that results in delightful treats? Look no further than these charming Cake Pops. These bite-sized delights are not only a hit at parties and gatherings but also a great way to engage kids in the kitchen. Let’s dive into how you can transform some basic ingredients into festive and delicious cake pops.

Ingredients:

  • 1 leftover dry cake – or 1 box of cake mix
  • 1 can of icing
  • 1 package of candy melts
  • 1 package of candy sticks
  • Foam board – for placing finished cake pops to dry
  • Sprinkles – for decoration

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Cake: If using a cake mix, bake according to the package instructions and allow it to cool completely. Alternatively, use leftover dry cake if available.
  2. Crumble the Cake: Achieve a fine, breadcrumb consistency by processing the cake in a food processor. If a food processor isn’t available, you can crumble the cake by hand.
  3. Mix with Icing: Combine the cake crumbs with the icing, starting with about 3/4 of the jar and adjusting as needed. The goal is a dough-like consistency that’s not too sticky; add more cake crumbs if it’s too moist or more icing if too dry.
  4. Form the Balls: Roll the mixture into balls and set them on wax or parchment paper.
  5. Chill: Refrigerate the cake balls for a few hours to firm them up.
  6. Prepare the Candy Coating: Melt the candy melts in the microwave, following the package directions. To prevent overheating, melt them on a low microwave setting, stirring frequently and letting the residual heat finish the melting process. If the mixture becomes too thick, a bit of shortening can help smooth it out.
  7. Assemble the Cake Pops: Dip a candy stick into the melted candy melts and insert it halfway into each cake ball, letting it harden slightly to secure the stick.
  8. Dip and Decorate: Dip each cake ball into the melted candy, allowing excess to drip off. Decorate with sprinkles before the coating sets completely.
  9. Dry: Insert the finished cake pops into a foam board to keep them upright and round as they dry.

Description

Cake pops are a delightful way to transform leftover cake into a fun and tasty treat. These bite-sized desserts are perfect for parties, gatherings, or just as a sweet snack at home. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create these adorable treats in no time.

Ingredients

Scale

1 Leftover dry cake – or 1 cake mix box
1 Can of icing
1 Package of candy melts
1 Package of candy sticks
Foam board – for placing finished cake pops in to dry
Sprinkles

Instructions

If you do not have leftover dry cake, bake a cake according to package instructions and let it cool.
Use a food processor to turn the cake into a breadcrumb consistency. If you don’t have a food processor, you can also crumble the cake by hand.
Mix the cake crumbs with your icing (use about 3/4 of the jar, but you may need to add it slowly to get the right mix). You want the mixture to be almost like dough but not too sticky from the icing. If it’s too sticky, add more cake crumbs; if it’s too dry, add more icing.
Roll the dough and form it into balls. Place on wax or parchment paper.
Chill the cake balls in the refrigerator for a few hours.
Melt your candy melts in the microwave according to the package directions. Be careful with this step to avoid overheating. If you do overheat, add some shortening to the mixture.
Turn your microwave setting down as low as possible and stir often between heating sessions. Let the residual heat of the candy melts finish the melting process to prevent overheating.
Dip the candy sticks in the candy melt mixture and insert halfway into the cake balls. Allow the candy mixture to harden on the cake balls.
Dip the cake balls in your melted chocolate coating, letting the excess coating drip off to one side. Add sprinkles before the chocolate coating dries completely. Place the cake pops in a foam board to dry if you want them to remain round.
