Let’s walk through the steps to create this delicious meal!

Ingredients:

For the Chicken:

  • 2 large boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 3 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 3-4 tablespoons olive oil

For the Sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 10 cloves garlic
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 2 ½ cups chicken broth
  • 1 beef bouillon cube or 1 teaspoon Better Than Bouillon
  • 1 teaspoon low-sodium soy sauce (or Worcestershire sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon mustard powder
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions:

1️⃣ Prep Work: Start by preparing the chicken broth mixture. In a small bowl, combine the chicken broth, bouillon, soy sauce, onion powder, mustard powder, and thyme. Set this mixture aside for later.

On a separate plate, mix the flour and Parmesan cheese together. Measure out all other ingredients before you begin cooking to ensure a smooth process.

2️⃣ Cut, Pound, Dredge, and Sear the Chicken: Slice each chicken breast into 2-3 thinner pieces. Place the chicken pieces in a gallon-sized freezer bag or between sheets of plastic wrap. Using the textured side of a meat mallet, pound the chicken to about ½ inch thickness. Pat the chicken dry with paper towels.

Season both sides of the chicken with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Dredge each piece of chicken in the flour mixture, ensuring both sides are coated. Tap off any excess flour.

3️⃣ Sear the Chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, sear the chicken pieces in batches for 4-5 minutes on each side until they develop a golden-brown crust. Set the seared chicken aside on a plate, leaving the flavorful browned bits in the skillet.

4️⃣ Make the Sauce: In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium/medium-low and add the butter. Allow it to melt and use a silicone spatula to scrape up the browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Add the garlic cloves to the melted butter, letting them soften and caramelize for about 6-7 minutes.

5️⃣ Thicken the Sauce: Sprinkle the flour into the skillet and whisk it into the butter and garlic for 1-2 minutes, until the raw flour smell dissipates and the mixture begins to brown slightly. Gradually pour in the chicken broth mixture, stirring constantly to avoid lumps.

6️⃣ Finish the Sauce: Stir in the heavy cream, bringing the mixture to a gentle boil before reducing the heat to low. If using, add the Parmesan cheese at this stage, stirring until it’s fully melted and incorporated.

7️⃣ Combine and Cook: Return the seared chicken to the skillet, along with any juices that have accumulated on the plate. Spoon some sauce over the chicken pieces, then cover the skillet and cook for 5 more minutes. The sauce will thicken further during this time, coating the chicken beautifully.

8️⃣ Serve: Garnish the dish with freshly chopped parsley and serve the Creamy Garlic Chicken alongside mashed potatoes and roasted green beans for a complete meal.

Recipe Notes:

  • Searing Tips: Ensure your pan is hot enough before adding the chicken to develop that perfect golden crust. Don’t overcrowd the pan, which can cause the chicken to steam rather than sear.
  • Garlic: The key to this dish is the caramelized garlic, which adds depth and sweetness to the sauce. Take your time to let the garlic soften and brown.

Instructions

1️⃣ Prep Work:
Combine the chicken broth, bouillon, soy sauce, onion powder, mustard powder, and thyme. Set aside.
Combine flour and Parmesan cheese on a plate and measure out additional ingredients prior to beginning. 🌿

2️⃣ Cut, Pound, Dredge, and Sear the Chicken:
Slice the chicken to create 2-3 thinner slices. Place the chicken in a gallon freezer bag (or in between saran wrap) and use the textured side of a meat mallet to pound it to ½ inch thick. Pat completely dry.
Season with Italian seasoning and salt/pepper. Dredge each side in the flour mixture. Tap off excess. 🔪

3️⃣ Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken in batches for 4-5 minutes per side, until a golden crust has developed. Set aside and leave brown remnants in the pan. (See notes for key tips for searing chicken.) 🍳

4️⃣ Make the Sauce:
Melt the butter in the skillet over medium/medium-low heat. Use a silicone spatula to “clean” the bottom of the pot. Add the garlic cloves and let them soften and caramelize for 6-7 minutes. 🧈

6️⃣ Stir in the cream. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Stir in the Parmesan cheese. 🧀

7️⃣ Add the chicken back to the pan along with any juice from the plate. Spoon the sauce on top. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. The sauce will continue to thicken during this time. 🍗
