1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
12 medium-sized croissants (about 1 1/4 pound | 570 g), one day old preferred
1/3 cup Canadian maple syrup
1/4 cup butter, thinly sliced
Additional ground cinnamon and vanillin sugar for dusting
Optional for serving: powdered sugar, ice cream, additional maple syrup, and fresh fruit
Instructions
Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
Halve croissants horizontally and arrange the bottom halves in the prepared dish.
Pour over half of the egg mixture and drizzle with maple syrup.
Place the top halves of the croissants over the base, then pour the remaining egg mixture over the top.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or overnight.
When ready to bake, let the dish stand at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F (175°C).
Top with slices of butter and a dusting of cinnamon and vanillin sugar.
Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown. If necessary, cover with foil to prevent excess browning.
