Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1½ tablespoons pure almond extract
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 5 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (for icing)
  • ¼ cup milk (for icing)
  • 1 teaspoon pure almond extract (for icing)
  • Preferred decorating sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Start by preheating your oven to 350°F and line cookie sheets with parchment paper. Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together in a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment for about 3-4 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, thoroughly mixing after each addition and scraping down the sides of the bowl as needed.
  2. Mix in the almond extract and baking powder. The mixture might appear slightly curdled – this is normal. Gradually alternate between adding the flour and the milk to the mixer, ensuring each addition is fully incorporated into the forming dough.
  3. Using a small cookie scoop or a rounded tablespoon, drop dough onto the prepared cookie sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Roll these portions into smooth balls. Bake on the center rack for 10-12 minutes, until the bottoms are lightly golden. Let them cool on the pan for 3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Whisk together the powdered sugar, almond extract, and milk in a medium bowl until smooth. Dip the tops of the cooled cookies into the icing, then set them on a wire rack or wax paper. Add sprinkles immediately before the icing sets.
