  • 1/2 cup (120ml) water
  • 1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp salt

For the Cinnamon Apples:

  • 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
  • 2 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 tbsp (56g) packed brown sugar

For the Cinnamon Whipped Cream and Granola:

  • 1 cup (240ml) heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup (58g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup cinnamon granola

Instructions

  1. Make the Caramel Sauce:
    • Combine granulated sugar and water in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat until the sugar dissolves (3-5 minutes).
    • Add butter and let it melt. Increase the heat to medium and bring to a boil, allowing the mixture to reach a deep golden copper color without stirring (10-15 minutes).
    • Remove from heat, carefully whisk in the heavy cream, then the vanilla extract and salt. Allow to cool to room temperature.
  2. Prepare the Cinnamon Apples:
    • Toss diced apples with lemon juice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar in a medium pan.
    • Cook over medium heat until apples are tender (about 10 minutes). Allow to cool.
  3. Make the Cinnamon Whipped Cream:
    • Beat heavy whipping cream in a large bowl until it starts to thicken. Add powdered sugar and cinnamon, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.
  4. Assemble the Trifles:
    • In individual serving glasses, layer whipped cream, granola, caramel sauce, and cinnamon apples. Repeat the layers.
    • Top with an extra drizzle of caramel sauce.

Additional Tips

  • These trifles taste best when allowed to set in the fridge for a few hours before serving, letting the flavors meld beautifully.
  • The granola adds a delightful crunch, though it will soften over time, so it’s best to enjoy the trifles within a day or two of assembly.

This Caramel Apple Trifle is not only a feast for the taste buds but also a visually appealing dessert that’s sure to impress. Enjoy the flavors of fall in each spoonful! 🍏🍂🍮
