Caramel Apple Trifles 🍏🍂🍮

For the Caramel Sauce:

1 cup (207g) granulated sugar
1/2 cup (120ml) water
1/4 cup (56g) unsalted butter
1/2 cup (120ml) heavy whipping cream
1/2 tbsp vanilla extract
1/2 to 1 tsp salt
For the Cinnamon Apples:

3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and diced
2 tsp lemon juice
1/8 tsp nutmeg
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
4 tbsp (56g) packed brown sugar
For the Cinnamon Whipped Cream and Granola:

1 cup (240ml) heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup (58g) powdered sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup cinnamon granola


Instructions

1️⃣ Make the Caramel Sauce:

In a medium saucepan, combine granulated sugar and water. Cook over medium-low heat until the sugar dissolves, about 3-5 minutes. 🍲
Add the butter and let it melt. Increase heat to medium and bring to a boil. Do not stir; allow the mixture to turn a deep golden copper color, about 10-15 minutes. 🧈🔥
Remove from heat and carefully add the heavy cream, whisking continuously. Add vanilla extract and salt. Allow to cool to room temperature. 🥄
2️⃣ Prepare the Cinnamon Apples:

In a medium pan, combine diced apples, lemon juice, nutmeg, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Toss to coat. 🍏🍋
Cook over medium heat for about 10 minutes, or until apples are tender. Allow to cool. 🍎
3️⃣ Make the Cinnamon Whipped Cream:

In a large bowl, beat heavy whipping cream until it starts to thicken. Add powdered sugar and cinnamon, and continue to beat until stiff peaks form. 🍶🎂
4️⃣ Assemble the Trifles:

In individual serving glasses, layer whipped cream, granola, caramel sauce, and cinnamon apples. Repeat layers. 🍨
Top with an extra drizzle of caramel sauce. 🍯
Additional Tips:
These trifles taste best when allowed to set in the fridge for a few hours before serving. ❄️
The granola provides a nice crunch, but it will soften over time. It’s best to eat the trifles within a day or two. ⏲️
