Chia Seed Jam

  • Author: Dulcia
  • Total Time: 17 minutes
  • Yield: 16 (1 tablespoon servings) 1x

Description

This Chia Seed Jam is the perfect blend of fresh, juicy berries and the natural thickening power of chia seeds. With just a touch of maple syrup for sweetness and a dash of lemon juice to balance the flavors, this jam is a healthy, refined-sugar-free alternative to traditional jams. The chia seeds not only thicken the jam but also add a boost of fiber and omega-3s.

Ingredients

Scale

3 cups fresh berries of choice
¼ cup filtered water
1 tbsp maple syrup (adjust for sweetness)
23 tbsp chia seeds
Juice of ½ lemon

Instructions

In a nonstick saucepan, combine the fresh berries, filtered water, and maple syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally and gently mashing the berries as they soften.
Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the chia seeds until well mixed. Let the jam sit for 5-10 minutes to thicken.
Once thickened, stir in the juice of half a lemon. Transfer the jam to a glass jar and allow it to cool before storing.
Store the chia seed jam in the refrigerator and use within 7-14 days.
