Description

There’s nothing quite like the comforting embrace of a Chicken Fried Steak smothered in creamy gravy. This dish, a staple in Southern cooking, delivers a hearty, satisfying experience with its crispy, seasoned exterior and tender beef inside. Paired with a rich, smooth gravy that’s crafted from the pan drippings, it embodies the essence of homestyle comfort food.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Steaks:
4 beef cube steaks (about 1/3 pound each)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1/4 cup milk
Vegetable oil for frying
For the Gravy:
2 tablespoons reserved frying oil
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Steaks: In a shallow dish, mix flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. In another dish, whisk eggs and milk. Dip each steak first in the flour mixture, then in the egg mixture, and again in the flour mixture.
Fry the Steaks: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry steaks until golden brown, about 4 minutes per side. Remove and keep warm.
Make the Gravy: Reduce heat to medium. Add reserved frying oil and flour to the skillet. Whisk until smooth. Gradually whisk in milk, scraping up any browned bits from the pan. Continue cooking and stirring until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
Serve: Place steaks on plates and pour gravy over the top.
