Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cayenne or red chili flakes to taste
  • 1 cup broth (chicken, beef, or vegetable)
  • 1 (15 ounce) can of crushed tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Start by heating a large pan over medium heat. Add the ground beef, breaking it into smaller chunks. Cook until browned and no longer pink, then drain and discard any excess grease.
  2. To the browned beef, add the chili powder, paprika, cumin, oregano, brown sugar, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir the mixture to evenly coat the meat with the spices. Pour in your choice of broth and stir, ensuring all the beef is well mixed with the seasonings.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes to the pan. Reduce the heat to medium and allow the mixture to simmer. Stir occasionally, letting the flavors meld together for about 20 minutes or until the mixture thickens slightly and is fragrant.
