Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box yellow cake mix (15.25 oz)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 stick salted butter, melted (8 tablespoons)
  • 1 package cream cheese (8 ounces), room temperature
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 box powdered sugar (16 ounces)
  • 1 stick salted butter, melted (8 tablespoons)
  • 1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips (12 ounces)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Oven and Pan Preheat your oven to 350°F and set the rack in the center. Lightly grease a 9×13 casserole dish or baking pan.
  2. Make the Crust In a mixing bowl, combine the yellow cake mix, one large egg, and one stick of melted salted butter. Mix until the texture is consistent, resembling loose Play-Doh. Transfer this mixture to the prepared dish, pressing it evenly across the bottom. Set aside.
  3. Prepare the Filling Using the same mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until fluffy. Add two eggs and vanilla, continuing to beat until smoothly combined. Gradually blend in the powdered sugar at a low to medium-low speed. Incorporate the melted butter slowly, followed by the chocolate chips, ensuring even distribution.
  4. Combine and Bake Pour the filling mixture over the crust layer in the dish, making sure to spread it evenly. Place in the oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes. The center will still appear jiggly when done.
  5. Cool and Serve Remove the dessert from the oven and let it cool in the pan for at least 2 hours before cutting into slices. This ensures the layers set properly and are easier to serve.
