Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large apples (mix of 3 Granny Smith and 3 sweeter variety, like Honeycrisp)
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 1/3 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare Baking Dish and Preheat Oven Butter a 9 x 13 inch baking pan and preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Step 2: Mix Sugars and Spices In a large bowl, thoroughly combine both types of sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  3. Step 3: Prepare Apples Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Toss them in the sugar and spice mixture to coat evenly, then transfer to the prepared baking dish, arranging in an even layer.
  4. Step 4: Prepare the Topping In a medium bowl, mix together oats, flour, sugars, salt, and cinnamon. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture forms clumps like wet sand. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the apples.
  5. Step 5: Bake Place in the preheated oven and bake at 375°F for 10 minutes. Then, reduce the temperature to 350°F and continue baking for an additional 35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
