Description

The Cinnamon Walnut Apple Delight is an irresistible dessert that perfectly balances the tartness of apples with the rich warmth of cinnamon, nutmeg, and a delightfully crunchy walnut topping. Ideal for any occasion, this dessert offers a comforting taste of autumn and can be served with optional vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce to elevate its decadence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21-ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 6 large McIntosh or Granny Smith apples, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 1 (15.25-ounce) package spice cake mix
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 10 tablespoons cold butter, sliced
  • 1 1/3 cup chopped walnuts
  • Optional for serving: Vanilla ice cream, Homemade whipped cream, Homemade or store-bought caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Start by heating your oven to 350 degrees F, ensuring it’s ready for baking when the dessert assembly is complete.
  2. Prepare the Apples: In a 9 x 13-inch baking dish, blend the canned apple pie filling with the freshly peeled and sliced apples.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the dry spice cake mix with the cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar. This mixture will create the delightful crunchy topping.
  4. Assemble the Dessert: Evenly sprinkle the cake mix mixture over the mixed apples in your baking dish. Do not mix these layers. Sprinkle the chopped walnuts over the top, then distribute the slices of cold butter evenly across the surface.
  5. Baking: Bake in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the filling is hot and bubbly.
  6. Serve: Allow the dessert to cool slightly, making it easier to serve. If desired, add toppings such as vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce for extra richness.
