Description

Buñuelos are a classic dessert in many cultures, known for their simple yet delightful combination of crispy texture and sweet, sugary coating. These golden treats are fried to perfection, offering a satisfying crunch with each bite, complemented by a dusting of cinnamon sugar that melts in your mouth. Ideal for celebrations or a cozy night in, buñuelos bring a touch of sweetness to any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Buñuelos
2 cups all-purpose flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons refined coconut oil, melted
2/3 cup warm water
For frying
12 cups neutral vegetable oil (canola, peanut, corn, etc.)
Coating
6 tablespoons cane sugar
½ tablespoon cinnamon

Instructions

Sift the flour and baking powder into a large mixing bowl. Add the salt and whisk together.
Mix the melted coconut oil and warm water into the dry ingredients until combined.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for 10-15 minutes until smooth and elastic. Adjust with additional water or flour as needed to reach the right consistency.
Divide the dough into about 8 pieces, roll each into a smooth ball, and flatten slightly. Cover and let rest for 30 minutes.
Rolling
5. If using a tortilla press, line with plastic and lightly flour each dough disc. Press into thin circles. Alternatively, use a rolling pin and stretch on a clean surface.

Frying
Heat oil to 350-375°F. Fry each buñuelo until golden brown, about 30-45 seconds per side. Press gently during frying to minimize bubbling.
Drain on paper towels and coat each side with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Serve warm.
