1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons ground coriander
1 teaspoon garam masala
1 teaspoon turmeric
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Salt and pepper to taste
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
1 can (14 oz) tomato sauce
1 cup heavy cream
Fresh cilantro, chopped, for garnish
Cooked rice or naan, for serving


Instructions

In a bowl, mix together the yogurt, lemon juice, cumin, coriander, garam masala, turmeric, chili powder, cinnamon, salt, and pepper. Add the chicken pieces and coat well. Marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight in the refrigerator.
In a large skillet or pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
Add the marinated chicken and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
Pour in the tomato sauce and stir to combine. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Stir in the heavy cream and simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
