Ingredients

For the Mushrooms:

  • 500 g / 1 lb mushrooms, cleaned
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

For the Sour Cream Dipping Sauce:

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 tbsp chopped chives
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Directions

  1. Prepare the Coating:
    • Season the flour with a pinch of salt and pepper. Place the seasoned flour in a shallow bowl.
    • In a separate shallow bowl, add the beaten eggs.
    • In a third bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs with garlic powder and oregano. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  2. Coat the Mushrooms:
    • Take each mushroom and coat it first in the seasoned flour, ensuring it’s fully covered.
    • Next, dip the mushroom into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess egg to drip off.
    • Finally, roll the mushroom in the panko breadcrumb mixture until it is fully coated.
  3. Cook the Mushrooms:
    • Arrange the crumbed mushrooms in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Drizzle them with olive oil to help them achieve a golden, crispy texture.
    • Set the air fryer to 200ºC/390ºF and cook for 10 minutes.
    • After 10 minutes, turn the mushrooms over and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes until they are crisp and golden brown.
  4. Make the Dipping Sauce:
    • While the mushrooms are cooking, prepare the dipping sauce. In a small bowl, mix together the sour cream, chopped chives, garlic powder, and lemon juice.
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Once the mushrooms are cooked to perfection, serve them hot with the sour cream dipping sauce on the side.
