  • 1/4 cup cherry juice (from the canned cherries or fresh)
  • 2 cups vanilla pudding (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate shavings (or grated chocolate)
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder (optional for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Bake the Chocolate Cake Prepare the chocolate cake following the instructions on the box or your own recipe. Allow it to cool completely before cutting into cubes.
  2. Cut the Cake into Cubes Once cooled, slice the cake into 1-inch sized cubes for easy layering in your trifle dish.
  3. Whip the Cream In a large mixing bowl, beat the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form, set aside.
  4. Prepare the Cherries Drain canned cherries, reserving the juice, or pit and chop fresh cherries. Marinate in a small bowl with their respective juice or syrup.
  5. Layer the Trifle Start with a layer of chocolate cake cubes in a trifle dish, pressing gently. Follow with layers of vanilla pudding, marinated cherries with some juice, and whipped cream. Repeat layering as needed, finishing with whipped cream on top.
