Ingredients
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons peanut butter (creamy or crunchy)
1 tablespoon honey or molasses
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ginger, minced
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
Instructions
Combine Ingredients: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix soy sauce, peanut butter, honey or molasses, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and black pepper until smooth.
Thicken (Optional): If a thicker consistency is desired, first dissolve the cornstarch in 1 tablespoon of water, then stir into the sauce mixture.
Cook: Transfer the mixture to a small saucepan and cook over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Avoid letting it boil, cooking just until the sauce is heated through and slightly thickened.
Cool and Store: Allow the sauce to cool slightly before transferring to a jar or container. Homemade hoisin sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Remember to stir well before each use.
Enjoy your homemade hoisin sauce with stir-fries, spring rolls, or as a unique dipping sauce!
