Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 pound ground beef (80% fat / 20% lean)
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 4 slices sharp cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 4 split hamburger buns, toasted
  • Topping options: pickle slices, thinly sliced red onion, tomato slices, lettuce

Directions

  1. Prepare the Seasoning:
    • In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1 teaspoon seasoned salt, 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder. Mix well to ensure the spices are evenly distributed.
  2. Form the Patties:
    • Divide 1 pound of ground beef into 4 equal portions. Gently shape each portion into a rough, loose ball without pressing them together too firmly. Place the beef balls on a baking sheet or large plate.
    • Evenly sprinkle the seasoning mixture over all sides of the beef balls.
  3. Cook the Burgers:
    • Heat a 10-inch or larger cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until very hot, approximately 3 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon of canola oil to the skillet.
    • Place the seasoned beef balls in the skillet, working in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Using a flat spatula, flatten each ball into a rough patty about 4 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick.
    • Cook the patties until the edges are brown and they no longer stick to the skillet, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Add the Cheese (Optional):
    • Flip the patties and place a slice of sharp cheddar cheese on top of each one, if desired. Continue cooking for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and the burgers no longer stick to the skillet.
  5. Assemble and Serve:
    • Serve the burgers immediately on toasted hamburger buns. Add your favorite toppings, such as pickle slices, thinly sliced red onion, tomato slices, and lettuce.

  • Yield: 4 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 pound ground beef (80% fat / 20% lean)
1 tablespoon canola oil
4 slices sharp cheddar cheese (optional)
4 split hamburger buns, toasted
Topping options: pickle slices, thinly sliced red onion, tomato slices, lettuce

Instructions

Place 1 teaspoon kosher salt, 1 teaspoon seasoned salt, 1 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder in a small bowl and stir to combine.
Divide 1 pound ground beef into 4 portions and form into rough, loose balls (do not press them together). Place on a baking sheet or large plate and sprinkle all over with the seasoning mixture.
Heat a 10-inch or larger cast iron skillet over medium-high heat until very hot, about 3 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon canola oil. Working in 2 batches if needed so as not to crowd the pan, add the beef balls. Flatten the balls with a flat spatula to form rough 4-inch wide patties that are about 1/2-inch thick.
Cook until the edges are brown and the beef no longer sticks to the skillet, 2 to 3 minutes. Flip and place 1 slice sharp cheddar cheese on top of each patty, if using. Continue cooking until the cheese is fully melted and burgers no longer stick to the pan, 2 to 3 minutes.
Serve immediately on toasted buns with desired toppings.
