Description

The French Onion Soup Risotto is a masterful blend of two classic dishes, merging the deep, savory flavors of French onion soup with the creamy, comforting texture of risotto. Ideal for dinner parties or a luxurious weeknight meal, this recipe promises to delight the palate with its rich taste and satisfying creaminess.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 bags Success Boil-in-Bag White Rice, approximately 4 cups cooked rice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 large white onions, thinly sliced with a mandolin
  • 8 oz gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper
  • Fresh sage and/or green onion, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Onions: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add the butter, allowing it to melt before adding the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Turn the heat to low, cover, and cook, stirring every 8-10 minutes and adding a pinch of salt with each stir to encourage caramelization.
  2. Cook the Rice: When the onions have been cooking for approximately 45 minutes, begin preparing the rice. Pour the beef broth into a sauce pot and cook the Success Boil-in-Bag White rice as per the box instructions.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Once the rice is cooked, mix in the caramelized onions, Worcestershire sauce, ground black pepper, and shredded gruyere cheese. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the ingredients are well combined.
  4. Serve: Serve the risotto hot, garnished with freshly chopped sage and/or green onion.
