Ingredients
Filling:
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup pure cane sugar
1/2 cup pure cane dark brown sugar
1 cup melted butter, cooled
1 cup milk chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 unbaked 9-inch pie shell
Pie Crust (for one 9-inch single crust):
1 cup flour
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 tablespoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup cold water
Instructions
Pie Crust
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Use a fork to cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add cold water all at once and stir 3-4 times to form a dough ball.
Roll out the dough on a heavily floured surface and place it into a 9-inch pie plate. Set aside for filling.
Filling and Baking
Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C).
Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl for 1 minute, stir, and let sit to cool to room temperature.
In a large bowl, whisk the eggs until fully combined, then stir in flour, cane sugar, and brown sugar.
Gradually whisk in the cooled melted butter, ensuring it’s fully incorporated.
Fold in chocolate chips, walnuts, and vanilla, then pour the filling into the prepared pie shell.
Place a rimmed baking sheet on the oven rack below the pie to catch any butter that may bubble out during baking.
Bake for 1 hour. Allow the pie to cool for 30 minutes to 1 hour before serving. It’s best served warm.
