Description
This Honey Bear Pizza combines savory, smoky flavors of Italian sausage and smoked mozzarella with the sweetness of raw honey. Perfectly baked with a crispy crust and melty cheese, it’s the ultimate blend of sweet and savory in every bite!
Ingredients
1 Prepared Pizza Dough, at room temperature
1/4 – 1/2 cup White Sauce (find the recipe in the Wild Palms Pizza Post)
1/2 cup Mozzarella, shredded
1/2 cup Smoked Mozzarella
12–16 oz. Hot Italian Sausage (4–5 links), casings removed, browned and crumbled
1/4 Large Red Onion, sliced into thin rounds
Drizzle of Raw Honey, to finish
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
Let the pizza dough sit at room temperature for at least 30-45 minutes.
Remove the casings from the sausage and brown the meat over medium-low heat. Break it apart with a wooden spatula to create small crumbles. Drain any excess grease and set aside.
Prepare the White Sauce by following the recipe in the Wild Palms Pizza Post.
Lightly coat a quarter sheet pan with olive oil and set it near your assembly station.
On a floured surface, roll out the dough to roughly 9″ x 13″ and place it in the sheet pan. Roll the edges for a nice crust.
Spread an even, thin layer of white sauce over the dough, then sprinkle a layer of mozzarella cheese.
Add the browned sausage, then more cheese. Layer the onion slices, followed by more cheese (alternating between regular and smoked mozzarella).
Continue layering until all the sausage is used, and finish with a final layer of cheese on top.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is browned and bubbly.
Once out of the oven, drizzle raw honey over the top for a sweet finish.
