Description

Imagine biting into a Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuit, where each bite offers a flaky, buttery texture with bursts of sharp cheddar and the spicy tang of jalapeno. These biscuits are not just a treat to the taste buds but a feast for the eyes too, with their golden-brown crust and inviting cheesy aroma.

Ingredients

Scale

1/2 Cup Cubed Butter
1 and 3/4 Cups All-purpose Flour
1 and 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
2 tsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Salt
1 and 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
2 tbsp Fresh Jalapeno Peppers (finely chopped)
1 Cup Cheddar Cheese (Shredded)
1/2 Cup Buttermilk (cold, plus more for brushing)
6 Jalapeno Slices (for topping, optional)

Instructions

Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C) and line a baking tray with parchment paper or butter a cast iron skillet.
In a mixing bowl, combine flour and cubed butter, cutting the butter into the flour until coarse crumbs form.
Add salt, baking powder, sugar, garlic powder, chopped jalapenos, and buttermilk. Mix gently with a spatula.
Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese until just combined, ensuring not to overwork the dough.
On a floured surface, shape the dough into a rectangle. Fold and flatten a few times, then roll out to ½-3/4 inch thickness.
Cut into biscuits using a biscuit cutter and place on the prepared tray. Top each with a jalapeno slice if desired and freeze for 10-15 minutes.
Brush with additional buttermilk and bake for 20-23 minutes until golden brown. Brush with melted butter before serving.
