Ingredients
1 pound ground beef (patties formed into 4 large burgers)
2 tablespoons butter
2 cups sliced fresh mushrooms
2 ounces cream cheese
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon garlic, crushed (about 2 cloves)
1/2 cup gruyere cheese, shredded
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 cup water or beef broth
Instructions
Begin by shaping your ground beef into four large patties. Set aside.
Heat a cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the beef patties in the skillet. Reduce heat to medium and cook the burgers undisturbed for 5-7 minutes on one side. Flip and cook for another 5-7 minutes, depending on desired doneness. Remove from the skillet when fully cooked. Drain excess grease if necessary.
In a separate nonstick skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté, reducing heat to medium, until they are golden brown.
When the mushrooms are almost done, stir in the garlic. Then add the cream cheese, heavy cream, onion powder, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir until the cream cheese is melted and well combined.
Add the shredded gruyere cheese and stir until fully melted into the sauce.
Finally, add the sour cream and water or beef broth, mixing until smooth and well combined. Allow the sauce to heat through.
Serve the cooked burgers topped with the creamy mushroom sauce. Enjoy!
