Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

  • 1/2 cup corn kernels
  • 1/4-1/2 tsp salt

Directions

Using a Hand Crank Pot

  1. Heat the Oil: Pour 1/4 cup of vegetable oil into the pot and heat it over medium heat. Add 3 corn kernels to the pot.
  2. Test the Heat: When the kernels pop, it’s time to add the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Add Corn and Sugar: Add the remaining 1/2 cup of corn kernels and 1/3 cup of sugar to the pot.
  4. Pop the Corn: Fit the lid on the pot and turn the crank continuously until the popping stops.
  5. Season and Serve: Immediately pour the popped corn into a large bowl. Sprinkle 1/4-1/2 tsp of salt evenly over the kettle corn. Stir with 2 spatulas or spoons to mix thoroughly and break up any clusters.

Using a Large Stock Pot

Stir everything together.

Wait 15 seconds, then alternate 3-5 seconds of putting the pot on the burner and then picking the pot up and shaking it. Repeat until you no longer hear popping, about 3 minutes.
  5. Season and Serve: Immediately pour the popped corn into a large bowl. Sprinkle 1/4-1/2 tsp of salt evenly over the kettle corn. Stir with 2 spatulas or spoons to mix thoroughly and break up any clusters.
