Ingredients
Scale
- 3 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt, plus extra for seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
- Chives for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Potatoes Place the cubed potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and bring the water to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and simmer the potatoes until they are tender, approximately 15-20 minutes.
- Heat Cream and Butter While the potatoes are cooking, combine the butter and heavy cream in a small saucepan. Warm the mixture over low heat until the butter melts completely, making sure not to let it boil to preserve the creaminess of the mixture.
- Mash the Potatoes Drain the cooked potatoes well to remove all excess water. Return them to the hot pot or to a mixing bowl suitable for mashing. Pour in the melted butter and cream mixture and mash the potatoes until they reach a smooth and creamy consistency.
- Add Final Touches Stir in sour cream (if using), additional salt (to taste), and black pepper. Mix everything together until well combined and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Serve Spoon the whipped potatoes into a serving dish. Garnish with freshly chopped chives if desired, and serve hot.
