Ingredients
3/4 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
2 cups oats (quick cooking or old fashioned)
Glaze:
4 tablespoons milk
2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
Water as needed
Instructions
In a large bowl, cream together shortening and sugars until light and fluffy.
Beat in water and vanilla extract.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture and mix well.
Fold in oats.
Using a medium cookie scoop, drop dough onto greased baking sheets.
Bake at 350°F for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Let cookies stand on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool.
For the glaze, stir together milk and powdered sugar. Add water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
Quickly dip the top of each cookie in the glaze and allow the excess to drip off.
