Ingredients

Scale

3 cloves garlic, grated
1 lime, zest and juice
1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
2 tsp Sambal Oelek (or substitute Sriracha)
5 tbsp soy sauce (or coconut aminos for a gluten-free option)
¼ cup water (or low sodium vegetable broth)
¼ cup light brown sugar
1 tbsp cornstarch
15 oz super-firm or extra-firm tofu, pressed and drained well
Vegetable oil for cooking
12 green onions, sliced on the diagonal
½ cup fresh cilantro, roughly chopped
1 tbsp toasted white sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

Mix all sauce ingredients except the cornstarch in a small bowl. Cut tofu into ½” cubes and marinate in half the sauce for 20 minutes. Optionally, coat marinated tofu in 2-3 tbsp of cornstarch for crispiness. Heat a skillet with vegetable oil over medium heat and fry tofu until golden. Simmer the remaining sauce and thicken with a cornstarch slurry. Combine tofu with sauce, cook until caramelized, and serve with garnishes.
