Ideal for special occasions or a delightful treat to brighten your day, this recipe will guide you through creating these irresistible candies at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 7 oz evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 package (11 oz) vanilla or white chocolate chips (Ghirardelli recommended)
  • 4 oz marshmallow creme
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Workspace: Start by placing two long sheets of waxed paper on cookie sheets or a clean countertop to ready your workspace for the dropping of the candy mixture.
  2. Combine Base Ingredients: In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, mix together granulated sugar, evaporated milk, and cubed butter. Heat over medium-low, stirring continuously until the mixture reaches a boil. Then decrease the heat slightly, maintaining a low boil, and continue stirring for 8 minutes.
  3. Add Chocolate and Marshmallow: Add the vanilla chips and marshmallow creme to the saucepan. Stir thoroughly until the chips have completely melted. Remove the saucepan from the heat as soon as the mixture is smooth.
  4. Mix in Flavorings and Nuts: Stir in the vanilla extract and chopped pecans, ensuring even distribution throughout the candy mixture. Mix well to combine all flavors and textures.
  5. Cool and Shape: Allow the mixture to cool for about 23 minutes, or until it thickens but remains creamy. If the mixture becomes overly firm, lightly mix in a few teaspoons of evaporated milk to regain a creamy consistency. Using a tablespoon, drop the candy onto the prepared waxed paper.
  6. Set and Store: Let the candies cool completely until they are firm and hold their shape. This may take several hours at room temperature.
