Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes, peeled or unpeeled
  • 1 & 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 clove garlic, grated
  • 1 teaspoon coarse salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
  • 1/2 cup shredded Gruyere cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F (177 degrees C). Prepare a 12-cup muffin tin by coating it generously with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the Potatoes Slice the potatoes thinly, aiming for consistency in thickness. Using a mandolin slicer is recommended to achieve uniform thin slices, which are crucial for even cooking and stacking.
  3. Mix Ingredients In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced potatoes with heavy cream, grated garlic, salt, black pepper, and dried dill. Ensure that the slices are well-coated with the mixture for full flavor.
  4. Stack the Potatoes Carefully stack the seasoned potato slices into each prepared muffin well, filling them almost to the top. Distribute any remaining cream mixture evenly among the wells.
  5. Initial Baking Cover the muffin tin with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 40 minutes to allow the potatoes to become tender.
  6. Add Cheese and Finish Baking Once the initial baking is done, remove the foil and sprinkle shredded Gruyere cheese over each potato tower. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. Final Steps Remove the muffin tin from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Use a thin spatula or knife to gently loosen the edges of each potato tower before transferring them from the tin to serving plates.
