Ingredients
5 lbs. apples (Gala, or any variety)
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 Tbsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
2 dashes salt
Instructions
Prepare the apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples into small pieces.
Add to slow cooker: Place the sliced apples in the slow cooker. Add brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt. Stir to combine.
Cook: Cover the slow cooker and cook on HIGH for 5 hours or on LOW for 8-10 hours, until the apples are very soft.
Blend: Once the apples are done, transfer them and any liquid to a blender. Blend until smooth, using a towel over the lid to prevent burns. Alternatively, use an immersion blender directly in the slow cooker to blend the apples until smooth.
Store and serve: Let the apple butter cool completely, then store in airtight jars. Serve on toast, biscuits, or use as a filling for desserts.
