Description

Trisha Yearwood’s Apple Dumplings are not just a dessert; they’re a warm embrace from the South. Each dumpling, with its tender, spiced apple wrapped in a golden crescent roll, sits drenched in a sweet, cinnamon-infused sauce that sparkles with a touch of vanilla. When baked, the tops crisp up to a delightful texture, while the insides remain soft and lusciously filled with apple goodness. Adding a splash of Sprite or 7UP to the mix creates a light, bubbly effect, lifting the flavors and infusing the dumplings with a unique zest.

Ingredients

Scale

2 Granny Smith apples
1 can (8 oz) crescent rolls
1 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup Sprite or 7UP
A pinch of ground nutmeg

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Apples: Peel and core the apples, then cut each apple into 4 wedges.
Wrap the Apples: Separate the crescent roll dough into triangles and place an apple wedge on the wide end of each triangle. Roll up starting at the wide end, and pinch to seal. Place in a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Make the Sauce: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Stir in the sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until the sugar is dissolved. Pour this mixture over the rolled-up dough and apples in the baking dish.
Add the Soda: Pour the Sprite or 7UP around the edges of the pan, being careful not to wash the sugar mixture off the dumplings.
Season: Sprinkle the top with a pinch of nutmeg.
Bake: for 35-45 minutes, or until golden brown and apples are tender.
